Sign Language is an essential communication system for deaf people, allowing them to access information, education, culture, and human rights effectively.
Throughout the world, different countries have developed their own sign languages, and in Mexico, we find the “Mexican Sign Language” (LSM), which shares similarities with other states in the country but has slight variations.
With the aim of promoting inclusion and fostering a more accessible society, the Carlos Slim Foundation, through its online platform “Capacítate para el empleo,” offers the Mexican Sign Language course for free.
This training seeks to provide participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to communicate with deaf individuals and contribute to a more inclusive society.
Sign language is a complete linguistic system that uses hand gestures, facial expressions, and body movements to express meanings and ideas.
In addition to being fundamental for the communication of deaf individuals, it is also an important tool for their family members, friends, educators, and interpreters.
It facilitates social interaction and identity development and, through its linguistic and cultural particularities, enriches human diversity.
The course is organized into 4 levels, each with several lessons covering the essential aspects of LSM.
Among the topics covered are:
- Distinctive features of Mexican Sign Language
- Fingerspelling and ideograms
- Basic vocabulary for sentences
- Phrase analysis
At the end of each lesson, tests will be conducted to assess progress and acquired knowledge.
