Mastering the English language is an essential and valuable skill in various aspects of life, both for students and professionals, as well as the general public.

Recognizing this need, the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), in collaboration with the British Council and the Faculty of Superior Studies (FES) Acatlán, has launched a program of free English courses.
The program, available to the general public, is a language learning platform called Virtual Language Environment (Ambiente Virtual de Idiomas – AVI).
This platform offers 194 Units of Support for Learning (UPA) that provide a self-guided learning experience in English, divided into two modalities: “Practice” and “Evaluate,” both designed to adapt to the needs and pace of each student.
“Practice” Modality
This modality is aimed at the general public and offers a wide variety of courses that range from the most basic levels to B+.
“Evaluate” Modality
In this modality, the courses are designed for the student and faculty community of UNAM who are affiliated with AVI.
Participants can improve their skills in the four fundamental areas of English learning: reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
“Certify” Modality
UNAM has also thought about those who seek an official certification of the language. In the “Certify” section, students can find links that will direct them to other institutions, such as TOEFL, where they can obtain internationally recognized certification.
For both the general public and UNAM students, no prior knowledge of the English language is required to begin.
The courses are designed to guide students step-by-step in their learning process, from the basics to more advanced levels.
