The technology magnate, Elon Musk, stated in an interview with CNBC that OpenAI and ChatGPT would not exist without his assistance.

Musk said that it was him who recruited the scientists and key engineers for OpenAI, and his investment in the platform was approximately $50 million.

OpenAI was founded in December 2015 by Musk and four other co-founders.

Musk explained that the name OpenAI refers to open-source software. This type of software is freely available and can be redistributed and modified by anyone.

He said that the idea was to create the opposite of Google, which, according to him, is a profit-driven company that uses closed-source software.

Musk also expressed concerns about the direction OpenAI has taken in terms of its business model. According to him, the platform has shifted towards a closed-source, profit-driven model, similar to that of Google.

Musk compared this change to the transformation of an environmental organization dedicated to saving the Amazon rainforest into a logging company.

He has also expressed concerns about the relationship between OpenAI and Microsoft, which has invested $13 billion in the company since 2019.

According to him, Microsoft has rights over all the software and everything needed to run the inference system, giving them significant control over OpenAI.

Despite his concerns, he believes that artificial intelligence has the potential to significantly improve people’s lives in the future.
