Stanford University is offering a free Python programming course for anyone interested in learning from home.
This initiative is called “Code in Place” and is an online version of the introductory computer science course CS 106A.
Professors Mehran Sahami and Chris Piech have decided to offer the course for free in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, in order to help people make the most of their time at home and learn a new skill.
The course is open to anyone in the world who is at least 18 years old and has access to a computer.
The idea behind “Code in Place” is to provide a high-quality virtual learning opportunity, where students can participate in a live interactive teaching experience.
In addition, the initiative aims to demonstrate that online education can be effective and provide a human touch, which sets it apart from other online programming courses.
“Code in Place” consists of five weeks of classes taught in the Python programming language. Students have access to weekly video conferences with instructors, as well as a live interactive teaching component that allows them to interact with other students in real time.
Although the deadline to apply has passed, all classes have been uploaded to YouTube so that anyone interested can view them.
