Amazon has launched a new series on its Twitch platform called AWS Dev Hour, featuring the program “Building Modern Applications”.
This eight-episode program aims to teach viewers how to create cloud-native applications and architecture best practices through hands-on practice on Amazon Web Services (AWS) free tier platform.
The program’s hosts, Ben Newton and May Kyaw, will guide viewers through the process of building a serverless application using AWS’s free tier.
Throughout the episodes, tools such as AWS Lambda, Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon API Gateway, the React library, and more will be used to learn best practices for modern applications and understand the differences between AWS’s cloud-native applications and local applications.
The program is interactive, meaning viewers can ask questions live during the broadcast or watch recorded episodes.
The series began in late January, but viewers can still access previous episodes.
What does each episode cover?
- The first episode, “AWS CDK,” focuses on defining application infrastructure using the AWS Cloud Development Kit (CDK) tool.
- The second episode, “AWS Lambda and Amazon DynamoDB,” addresses creating the synchronous application service, while the third, “Amazon API Gateway,” focuses on creating an API that integrates with AWS Lambda function.
- The fourth episode, “AWS IAM and Amazon Cognito,” focuses on integrating the front-end application with the backend and implementing user authentication.
- The fifth episode, “Amazon S3,” covers user image management and how they can be securely stored.
In addition to the episodes, online resources such as an AWS CDK developer guide and the CDK API reference are available.
There are also free AWS workshops and courses available on the series’ page.
The series is designed for developers, so the focus is interactive, fun, and practical.
